Science writing Vs Science journalism

Science writing is about explaining complex ideas that nobody wants to keep secret; science journalism is about explaining things that everyone can understand, but that some might prefer to keep buried.

The target audience differs for both, as science writers tend to inform while journalists aim to entertain and provoke, but there is a significant overlap in the two roles.

Science writing and science journalism both entail writing.

Well, then what sets the two roles apart?

Science writing entails busting technical jargon in scientific concepts, and explaining complex ideas that no one is trying to conceal or suppress, in a manner that the lay audience can understand.

Science journalism entails doing the same job of explaining complex ideas in a manner that is comprehendible for the lay audience, with the exception that science journalists target ideas that seem to be covert, and where it seems like efforts are being made to keep the ideas undisclosed!

Despite their differences, both roles aim at creating AWARENESS in the society; that's a significant overlap of the roles!
