Role of a 'sounding board' for an aspiring science communicator

A rule of thumb to follow if you aspire to be a science communicator or you are a researcher who wants to communicate research to the lay audience is:

Use a nonscientist friend/ family member as a sounding board for your narratives.


This will:

  • Help you identify the subjects that would interest only a specialized audience

  • Remind you that certain concepts that you may take for granted are actually foreign to many readers
